Arthur Adams is like those films that they made back in the 50s, 60s and 70s of what the future would look like as movie makers imagined.

He's exactly like that.

Except he sings and plays the blues. And he is here NOW!!

This is the future of blues; the reinterpreting and playing of the classics - like St Louis Blues, Crossroads, Red House & Lil Red Rooster and jamming on E-A-B (or some 1-4-5 progression) all night long.

Cartoon saxophone player Bleeding Gums Murphy taught us that "the blues don’t make you feel better, they make other people feel worse." And John Lee Hooker said, ‘The blues don’t make you feel sad. It makes you feel good.’ Music is like medicine.”

Arthur Adams is medicine.

For now and forever.

To hear Arthur Adams sing the blues is nothing short of hearing the sweetest soul music imaginable.

Beyond earthly, his sad slow voice echoes times of yore when things were simpler - when if all you had was three chords- you figured out a way to make them into many songs and entertain for hours.

It's said that singing the blues isn't to make yourself feel better, but rather to make those listening feel worse.

Arthur doesn't play that. He's here to party, to make you dance, to walk out into the crowd with his wireless Gibson ES335 and shred among the masses.

Arthur Adams is doubtlessly the last of his breed. He does what a lot of blues singin' muthas used to do. But none of them have the chops, tenacity and skills of Arthur Adams. And he's survived them all.

Kirk Fletcher : New-jack blues guitarist (formerly of The Fabulous Thunderbirds).Backing Kirk is Luke Miller/keys, Calvin Turner/bass, Lemar Carter/drums, and Kris Bradley on vocals.

Friday:

Club favorites The Boneshakers bring their super bad grooves featuring the vocals of Mr Sweet Pea Atkinson (Lyle Lovett, Was (Not Was)).

Saturday:

Prepare to dance and let loose, as Arthur Adams brings down the house with his home brew; combining legendary vocals and electric blues soulfulness.

Sunday:

Experience the dark erotic funky burlesque cabaret that is The Toledo Show.

Harvelle's is your one stop shop for an evening out. Located in the heart of Santa Monica's utopian downtown, Harvelle's provides the music, the cocktails, the cats, the dames and the whole dirty deal. If you've been, you know. If you have yet to, check it out; inside it's dark with red booths and a black and white checkerboard dance floor. It's always a great time and I'm usually hangin' out somewhere in the house.

Saturday night at Harvelle's with Arthur Adams was where it was at.

Arthur kept the crowd jumping and jiving with his move of making his way through the crowd, with his wireless guitar, onto the dance floor and down the aisles of the club and back again, soloing the whole time, never missing a beat. He's a rare breed and one of the best! Blessings to Arthur Adams and his Gibson ES335!

Arthur Adams :There's A Red House Over Yonder

Arthur Adams knows the blues.

He's seen it, lived it, and he's bringing it to Harvelle's to share it with a Satur-night crowd here in Santa Monica. If you want the real deal, this is it. Last October, I shot this video of Mr. Adams performing the classic "Red House".

Part funky cabaret, part erotic burlesque show.

Harlow Gold : The Westside's Burlesque

Under the radar for the last couple of months, Harlow Gold has been producing their sultry, provocative bump 'n' grind fest the last 2 Thursdays of each month exclusively at Harvelle's since April.

There is little I can write here without giving much away, and the show MUST be seen to be appreciated. There are 6 or 7 dancers in the revue each with her own gorgeous signature style, moves and individual characters; i.e. the pouty pole climbing redhead, the broken hearted chanteuse, the sado-masochistic military chain of command, the "stewardesses" who direct air traffic and dispense snacks, the 6 legged ultra-fem human fly, or my fave: the jaded sexually aggressive stripper dancing - one more time - to Tom Waits' "Pasties & A G-String". Special kudos to Beez (above), the night's Mohawk-ed host.

The Toledo Show's Malik Pointer (below, left) was in the house. I asked him what he thought of Harlow Gold, "FUCKING RIDICULOUS!... There's people that say that they can do shit, and there's THIS!! There is a difference!" This show is consistently sold out, so reservations are highly recommend.
