The Toledo Show : The Dames!

I almost think that if you're not cool enough to have shown up to see The Toledo Show, you're not worthy of seeing The Dames. You're lucky. I'm giving you a sneak peek, not just because "sex sells", but perhaps if you don't know, you'll come check it out.

Still pictures - even HD video - doesn't do The Toledo Show justice. It's an experience of light and sound and funk and a virtual walk down the back alleys of Toledo Diamond's cerebral private universe. Is it fiction? Or are these true tales from Toledo's adventures? One never knows, do one?  So here for your pleasure, a small gallery from a recent Sunday Toledo Show.

DJ Mic on the mic keeps the club hits bangin' all night long!!
Dame Leah is sho nuff sittin' on a goldmine!

Tonight, along with Sebastian Leger (keys, trumpet, vocals), Seth Murphy (d) and Mike Gunn (b)were The Toledo Show back line. Bringing it deep and low, loud and fresh, uncomplicated and true, they handled their debut with The Toledo Show with fire and much aplomb!! Check them out as the drum and bass of Ultralove; they play at Harvelle's every Monday.
And by the way...
you're still not worthy.

Toledo 500 : 10 Years Of The Show

The Toledo Show is a dirty burlesque film noir experience that can only be understood by being present. For 10 years The Toledo Show has taken over Sunday nights at Harvelle's in Santa Monica pushing boundaries and converting the uninitiated into staying out late on Sunday nights.

Unlike any other show, The Toledo Show is wholly original, funky as hell and leaves you exhausted and satisfied.

Happy Anniversary Toledo and company!

Harlow Gold : The Westside's Burlesque

Under the radar for the last couple of months, Harlow Gold has been producing their sultry, provocative bump 'n' grind fest the last 2 Thursdays of each month exclusively at Harvelle's since April.

There is little I can write here without giving much away, and the show MUST be seen to be appreciated. There are 6 or 7 dancers in the revue each with her own gorgeous signature style, moves and individual characters; i.e. the pouty pole climbing redhead, the broken hearted chanteuse, the sado-masochistic military chain of command, the "stewardesses" who direct air traffic and dispense snacks, the 6 legged ultra-fem human fly, or my fave: the jaded sexually aggressive stripper dancing - one more time - to Tom Waits' "Pasties & A G-String". Special kudos to Beez (above), the night's Mohawk-ed host.

The Toledo Show's Malik Pointer (below, left) was in the house. I asked him what he thought of Harlow Gold, "FUCKING RIDICULOUS!... There's people that say that they can do shit, and there's THIS!! There is a difference!"
This show is consistently sold out, so reservations are highly recommend.

What Is The Toledo Show?

Sunday night always feels right if you can spend it at Harvelle's with The Toledo Show!

Underground for the better part of a decade, the band, led by Toledo Diamond is the soundtrack to the outpouring of his psyche. Where the Id and the Ego meet. A nightmare of desire. His vision is universal.

He brings this weekly to Harvelle's.

Everyone loves funky music and burlesque dancers. And when Toledo does it, he
serves it up on gold platters with candeabras flickering. Part Disney™ imagination, part PG-17 art film, this is definitely an adults only show at an adults only venue.

So that's Walter on the saxaphone, Malik and Toledo vocals, Sebastian on trumpet, Brian Allen on bass, I do not know the blonde singer's name, but will post it when I do. I also do not know the aerialist's name, but she was fantastic. The short haired blonde, not sure she wants her name revealed, but she is a Sunday regular and princess of the dance floor, and it's not like she doesn't have competition.

Thanks to David and Harvelle's, Ernesto, Brew, Tony, Toledo, Stan and blondie...

Labor Of Love : The Toledo Show

Labor Day eve and where am I?
Celebrating at the Toledo Show!

Summer's practically over, but you wouldn't know by the heat inside Harvelle's this past Sunday night. Sweaty as H-E-L-L, the brave crowd endured and rocked so hard that they almost broke my neck!

The Toledo Show : Slightly Hung Over

The Toledo Show cranked it up a notch tonight. Their Sunday night residency continues to thrill the crowd, and dazzle with incredible musicianship, those hot dancers and the cabaret atmosphere they bring with 'em. Down on 4th St. in Santa Monica it was a party and a half. I met some great folks from Yonkers, NY and the band sounded better than ever. Brian Allen's thunderous bass riffs never stopped, guitarist Rok channeled Eddie Hazel and Vernon Reid during his featured solos, Sebastian rocked the trumpet, Asa pouned the skins into submission and Brew improvised on the keys. Singers Malik and Shamari sang their respective hearts out and the incomparable Walter Davis maceo'd his way to the top of the mix for the over-the-top-excitement factor he brings with him wherever/whenever he performs.

In the morning, I'll be slightly hung over and I really shouldn't have eaten that bacon double cheeseburger from Jack-in-the-Box I picked up on the way home. But I know it was worth it. A club full of music fans I'm sure would agree. Carlos? Jackie? Nate? Viv?

(Big shout-outs to John and Emily)
