Who's At Harvelle's This Weekend?

Tonight Key Frances sets the bar high for the weekend. Friday, his grungy electric blues band play in support of the new Red Room release "Rough And Raw".

Saturday, Blowin' Smoke bring the jams with their awesome party atmosphere and showcase of the fabulous vocals of the Smokettes, 3 pretty fantastic soul singers with something to prove. I'm pretty sure they're up to it.

Sunday is The Toledo Show. The dark electric funk cabaret is a dramatic crazy tango of which there is nothing like it. Must be experienced to fully understand. Last week's celebration of Toledo's birthday brought the house to capacity, which is not uncommon, so plan accordingly. 

Harvelle's is the oldest music establishment in Los Angeles; it's the number one place to hear live jazz and blues since 1931!

Last week was a stone gas (honey) as Brew returned to the House Of Vibe (as well as Corey and Pete) fresh off the Rock Tha Bells Tour. Chali 2na, who the guys were playing with on the tour, is returning the favor and sitting in... there won't be much sitting i'm sure.

Ryan Cross' Tuesday night residency features Quincey Mccrary and Jose Espinosa. I have it on good authority that Maiya Sykes will be in the house as well. There's always unplanned and/or surprise players dropping by. Only at Harvelle's - the final word in cool.

Arthur Adams descended upon Harvelle's - he hasn't been here in quite a while - and from the second he hit the strings of his Gibson, it was obvious he was there to make sure everyone let their hair down.

J.T. Ross' band consists of the finest Blues & Roots musicians in Los Angeles. Rick Holmstrom - (Guitar & Vocals) Has been touring and recording with the "Queen Of Gospel" Mavis Staples since 2005 and just wrapped a world tour playing guitar in Booker T's band. Bill Stuve - (Double Bass & Vocals) Is a founding member of Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers and has a discography which reads like a who's who of the blues hierarchy. Jerry Angel - (Drums) Has banged with the best of em' . . . Koko Taylor, The Blasters, Coco Montoya, Brian Setzer, and countless top notch musical stars.

Soul Funk : Hot Like Summer

Last week's Soul Funk session was a mind blowing combo of old school meets new school, as C.J. Eammons took the stage and captivated right from the start. C.J. (top photo))is a one-of-a-kind vocalist with a multi-octave range. He can sing any style with heavy soul and deep passion. Joined - at one point - by the delightful diva Kim Yarbrough - it was truly happenin' !

The night's second set featured Wally Ali (playing left-handed in the photo above)and Todd Washington (on the right) on guitars, often playing off each other, as they and a variety of back line changes created an electric party that those in attendance will not soon forget.
