Blowin' Smoke : What A Lovely Way To Burn!!
First time I've seen the Blowin' Smoke since Canadian guitarist Dave Rave's return to the lower 48 and specifically the glamour of L.A.(!).
Possibly buoyed by the prescence of Guitar Shorty, Dave played the Strat. He sliced and diced it every which way he could. Hail! Hail! Dave Rave!! Blowin' Smoke is big and baaad and always showcases these amazing women singers. It's a one-of-a-kind blues experience!
Also in the house : Jimmy Z!

Harvelle's Weekend : Plan Accordingly

Who's At Harvelle's This Weekend?
Tonight Key Frances sets the bar high for the weekend. Friday, his grungy electric blues band play in support of the new Red Room release "Rough And Raw". Saturday, Blowin' Smoke bring the jams with their awesome party atmosphere and showcase of the fabulous vocals of the Smokettes, 3 pretty fantastic soul singers with something to prove. I'm pretty sure they're up to it.
Sunday is The Toledo Show. The dark electric funk cabaret is a dramatic crazy tango of which there is nothing like it. Must be experienced to fully understand. Last week's celebration of Toledo's birthday brought the house to capacity, which is not uncommon, so plan accordingly.
Harvelle's is the oldest music establishment in Los Angeles; it's the number one place to hear live jazz and blues since 1931!

Blowin' Smoke on a Saturday Night
They jive.
They bump, swing and sway.
It's the raucous Blowin' Smoke.
Fuzzy and the boys return to Harvelle's for the Saturday night party that's sure to leave your feet sore and your head spinning. Good thing tomorrow's a Sunday. Time to recover. (Unless you gotta be in church in the morning.)
Tonight Dave Raven - one of Harvelle's own and the lead guitarist in Blowin' Smoke - will be playing his swan song guitar solo on 4th St., as he departs for the Northern skies of Toronto, Canada. Will it be on his Les Paul or his Stratocaster?
Dave, you will be missed.

Blowin' Smoke
Blowin' Smoke and the Fabulous Smokettes return to Harvelle's for a racous evening of electric blues, with a 4 piece horn section and, of course, the Fabulous Smokettes - three of the most soulful blues-singing women you'll ever hear under one roof.
Loud and live, the dance floor packed, Blowin' Smoke break it down old-school style.

Don't Lay No Boogie-Woogie On David Raven
Santa Monica isn't Memphis, but when David Raven rolls up his sleeves and gets to work (Thursday, Oct 23)... it'll be like 4th of July on Beale St.
Guitarist in Blowin' Smoke, often sitting in with the House Of Vibe on Wednesday nights, and running things behind the board at the club's award-winning sound system, Dave is already known around these parts. If you haven't met, come by Thursday night and say whatever it is you say to a Canadian that you're meeting for the first time. (Hell, buy him a beer!)
Dave's big dilemma?
Strat or Les Paul?
(I gotta find out how this one ends?!?!)
Smooth as silk, with soul to spare, Dave threatens to gets all kinds of greezy with the funk, slip-slidin' into another blues-drenched drunken night of too much fun.
But that's what it's all about.
